Nerdful Things 11/07/15

Let’s start this week’s Nerdful Things with the news of the Mystery Funko POP!  The option to buy a random Funko POP! from my in stock items (unless they sell out in which case I will order more random POP!s in) has been added to the store.  I’m still looking at other mystery box options (other manufacturers as well as bigger boxes packed with goodies).   As a bonus, the mystery box is being offered at a discounted price (cheaper than the cost of a regular POP!) for the first month.

Now, at this point I had intended on adding the other store additions here.  I had left it for today to update but yesterday a bombshell hit my e-mail.  A short and sweet e-mail with details of the SDCC Funko POP! pre-orders so I dropped everything.  After a rush to break the news I managed to get the store updated and also hit up eBay.  It’s taken a while in between my internet completely screwing up (I’ve rebooted my router countless times over the last 24 hours) as well as handling all the e-mails, messages and looking after 3 kids.  Considering my current state of health I haven’t done too bad!

Anyhoo, enough about my woes!  This week’s Nerdful things has now been hijacked by SDCC and I will to a bumper edition next week to cover what I was going to do originally!

You can view/pre-order the SDCC POP!s here.

I’ve submitted my figures to the distributor and hope to fulfill each and every order.  In the event I can’t, full/partial refunds (where applicable) will be issued.  Last year was less of a rush, considering I’d only been in operation for about 3 months.  More warning was given regarding the available items but it came with the drawback that items were staggered from August to November and saw some MAJOR delays and turned into some cancellations.  This year has seen a whirlwind tear through but the plus side is that the items are scheduled to drop much, much sooner.  Most are scheduled for later this month with a couple in August and one in September/October.  Details of estimated dates are on each product page.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the various announcements and news coming from San Diego and if you’re actually there or have been…well. I’m sure you’re feeling victorious after some epic hauls and signings etc!

It’s A Mystery

I’ve been toying with the idea of offering mystery boxes on the store; one-offs as well as recurring subscriptions.  My only reservation is that there is an increasingly saturated market for these and standing out from the crowd will be an issue – especially as a newcomer who operates solo as opposed to a team of diligent workers.  One other issue in terms of bringing a unique take on the mystery box world is the fact that it is very limited in what can be done to be different as it’s a very simple principle at the heart of it.

In regards to the monthly recurring scheme: if I do step into this venture it’ll be opened up to a small number as a means of piloting the service and gaining valuable feedback to see whether it’s worthwhile.

I’m looking at implementing the one-offs relatively soon as there is no risk involved in it.  Just a simple case of adding an option to the store to purchase a mystery item.  I’m also looking at doing a cheaper option for any box damaged items – I have a couple I’ve been holding onto until I decided what to do with them (Crow GITD and the SDCC 2014 Flocked Rocket Raccoon).

Ultimately, this hangs on the customer base (you) and the value you gain from this and I would love to have ideas/comments in regards to these propositions.  Any feedback is welcome – drop a comment below!

Nerdful Things 05/06/15

I’m going to try and mix it up for this weeks iteration of Nerdful Things.  Last week was predominantly DC products!  Last week saw a huge interest in the Hello Kitty DC plush dolls…especially from international buyers!

Now the first item isn’t a new addition but it’s had quite a hefty price drop so, in true ICYMI style, here is the awesome pink teddy bear from Breaking Bad.

Next, we have a range of new Adventure Time and Disney Funko POP! Keychains and Tins!

Now, I did try, but back onto Batman (as I’ve been piecing this post together – I am writing this section on 1 June – I had this drop into my inbox), this fantastic Jim Lee pencil art figure for SDCC 2015 is available to pre-order!

Bethesda

On top of the glorious Fallout 4 announcement from Bethesda, Funko announced the Fallout and Elder Scrolls POP! ranges.  I won’t go into detail here as I have recently put up a separate post about it here.

Now, this news I was super excited about – a supplier contacted me in regards to LEGO Dimensions and I am proud to be able to bring you the various Starter Packs and add-ons available for pre-order.  As a pre-order bonus, the Starter Packs have £5 off until midnight 28 September.

In follow up to the LEGO Dimensions news, I have also sourced a supplier that can provide LEGO sets so keep your eyes peeled for more sets and other LEGO related items here.

Similar to LEGO, I have also added the Walking Dead Construction sets for pre-order.  Set for release later this month, these sets allow you to recreate some of your favourite scenes from the smash TV show such as the prison and the Governor’s room.

Last but not least, the Avengers: Age of Ultron Cosbaby range has been added.  Pictured above is the set which includes an exclusive unmasked Tony Stark figure.  The other figures are available to purchase separately.

There have been a lot of other additions this week including some new Disney Funko POP!s so head on over to the store and have a look!

Deathstroke – The Fatal Blow

It’s some kind of cosmic joke, really.  I was updating this weeks Nerdful Things post (due out at the end of the week) with the newly announced  SDCC 2015 Jim Lee pencil Batman figure  and I thought to myself, “some folks will think I have some cheek announcing THIS years SDCC items and they’re still waiting on items from LAST year!”

And then, I got the e-mail.  The SDCC 2014 Unmasked Deathstroke POP! Vinyl (that I have been taking a lot of flak for due to it being so delayed and handling, at times, some really irate and rude individuals) cannot be supplied.  This is after being assured that my order would be fine a short while ago.

Highly disappointing as some folks have been waiting a very long time and, in a few cases, have had other items held back pending it’s inclusion in their shipment.  Thankfully, most people have been admirably patient and understanding and will be utterly disappointed with the news.

So what happens now?  Well, I will be going through all the affected orders as and when I can and e-mailing affected individuals.  Shipments being held that can be released based on this news will be shipped as soon as possible.

As for refunds, I will say it here as well as in the e-mails, if you locate your transaction on PayPal (if applicable) and you will have an option to say you have not received your items and open a case (provided your order isn’t older than 6 months).  If you are having diffuclty with this, please check the support section on PayPal. Once I have been notified of the case being opened I will respond as soon as I can and have the refund arranged.

If your order has only been partially affected, then I can either send a partial refund or you are free to choose another item of the same value from the store to replace it.  You can, of course, choose an item of greater value and pay the difference – email me at help@nerdgazzum.co.uk with your details and what you wish to do.  This is only if part of your order is affected.

If your order was placed over 6 months ago, then please email me at help@nerdgazzum.co.uk with details of this and if you would like to choose another item as outlined above, then please mention this also.

I hate the fact that this has happened, I have never had a situation like this before and whilst a few people have gotten rather frustrated over this; no one has been more frustrated than myself.  But, the best way to deal with this situation is be as open and honest as possible – especially as a relatively new business to the game.  There will always be problems but it’s how it’s handled that matters.

I only wish that I had known this sooner (much sooner) but I want to thank you very much for your time and understanding.

Delayed Items

[As of 30/09/15]

Seeing as there are a number of items I have on order with my suppliers and, in some cases, some are suffering extreme delays so I figured it’d be a good idea to have this post as a means of giving real-time updates on the status of said items.

Now, I have had a number of e-mails and communications with customers – some polite and understanding.  Others not so.  I have even had the accusation of running a false store front (despite the fantastic feedback on eBay, the Facebook page and the store itself…) so I thought this would also be a good idea in the name of transparency and to build an element of trust for customers who have never bought from me before and these form their first purchase or they may have heard of such issues.

As much as I’d love to be able to dictate to Funko and/or my suppliers what’s what in the world of distribution, I can’t.  I have no control over such matters and can only pass the information on.

I have had some issues with customers demanding refunds and, due to the nature of their purchase(s) this is not possible (as per the terms and conditions that they agree to upon completion of the checkout process)

I understand how frustrating delays can be.  Trust me, I know from both sides of it being a consumer and a retailer.  So, without further ado, here is the latest I have on the items subject to delays:

First up, and the biggest thorn in my side is the SDCC 2014 Unmasked Deathstroke.  There is no ETA on him at the moment but I have been assured he will be coming in.  He’s the biggest pain for me due to the fact a large number of folks are awaiting him…including myself for my own personal collection!

EDIT: Deathstroke orders cannot be fulfilled as stock cannot be acquired.  Please read this post for more details.

SDCC 2015 Grinning Ultron is incoming and should be here this week.

Rapunzel (with Frying Pan) is continuously being chased.

Ghostbusters Vinyl Idolz are unavailable – all affected customers have been contacted and refunded.

Next up: Winged Castiel.  I had a batch in a while back and, since then, he seems to have grown even more popular meaning that there’s a few I am waiting for to fulfil a number of orders.  More were expected by the end of April but I am awaiting an update on this as, obviously, we’re past that point now.

Dancing Groot and Gold Smaug have also suffered delays since the last batches were in.  As with Castiel, above, they were expected by the end of April and are pending an update.

I will sticky this post so it’s easy to navigate to and update it as and when I have further info!

Site Updates

Hello!

I’ve added a couple of new sections to the store “Instock” (exactly what it says on the tin) and “Incoming” (again, pretty self explanatory).

This should allow for more updates and the ability to keep on top of things a bit more easily from an admin point of view due to time limitations (work, family life and other ad-hoc stuff that may occur – especially on the run up to Christmas).

Some more SDCC stuff is dropping in but I’m awaiting details on the final bits and bobs (Luke/Wampa, Sharknado etc.)

Since moving back to Royal Mail for deliveries, I have had no complaints of damaged items – screw you Hermes!

I’m trying to get my hands on retired POP!s and items about to be retired (not just for my coillection!) – I have had a few requests that I’m looking into – if there are any pieces you are after (not necessarily Funko) then drop me a message and I’ll see what I can do!

Store Update – Week 40

Sadly, there’s no podcast this week – not had time (started back in work after like 5 weeks off and sorting out the HUGE order that’s coming this week!)

Lots of exciting new items have been added last week (Batman Unmasked, Superman Red Son etc.) and the biggest news is that a load of the SDCC orders are coming in (Bloody Hannibal, Glow In The Dark Walter White etc.)

So, without further ado, let’s just get straight into it!

PODCAST: Gotham Commentary (With Brief Store Update)

Due to another hectic week with a variety of personal stuff going on (combined with illness and tiredness!) Week 39 didn’t really provide much fruit but, as mentioned at the start of this podcast, the lack of updates is negligible considering the biggest news yet has hit – SDCC Bloody Hannibal Funko POP!s (and more) are coming!!!

I intend to either write or even discuss this further in another podcast but in the meantime, here is a much delayed commentary of episode 1 of Gotham (the previous recording failed and trying to find time to sit down and watch a show in peace and quiet and record at the same time is tricky…)

Let me know what you think on Twitter, Facebook or in the comments below!

Store Update – Week 33

This weeks update is mahooooosive!  The largest number of items for a good few weeks have been added and amongst all of that delectable goodness…SDCC Exclusives!!!

As a newcomer to the game, I was panicking as I really wanted to be able to sell SDCC items and for a while I was thinking I was stuck with just the one (Deathstroke) but then, my supplier dropped me an e-mail and my jaw hit the floor!
